I spent a lot of time this week on learning the difference between digital skill and digital literacies. This is the first time I heard the term “digital literacy”, and I thought it meant learning something related to the Internet at first. Inspired by the articles, I know that the understanding we have on digital literacy can be a representation of what we want to show in real life. I know when we should go to bed and how to greet, and we also know how and why we need to apply those skills in a digital world.

When I…

Instead of saying Internet addiction, I think “dependency” should be the more appropriate vocabulary describing my internet use. Compared with elementary and middle school, the opportunity for me to use the internet was much fewer than now. I remember when I started to learn how to use a computer at school, I was so addicted to a game that I could play it at 6 am before going to school. Thinking back to my childhood, I realize most of the time which I used interest were for entertainment; I played games, watched limited videos from apps, and chatted with friends…

The differences between VR and AR confused me a lot, but fortunately I’ve learned more about these two. The major difference is that VR is something completely immersing, while AR is putting digital elements to our real world. These definitions are very straightforward and I can connect my own experiences of using both of them. From where I stand, it seems like AR is much more prevalent in society, especially on social media than VR (correct me if I am wrong). Based on the definition of AR, I think many filters from Snapchat and Instagram, such as putting dogs’ ears…

I really like the third tip which is to take an interest in child's online world!!! From where I stand, the sense of loneliness is a possible factor pushing people to play online games. In order to help kids to have a healthy online gaming habits, parents should pay more attention to their kids. Having a discussion can not only helps parents to know more about their children and the game, but also narrowing the gap between parents and children. This strategy will be extremely helpful to the family which parents don't spend much of the time with their kids. Thanks for sharing!

This week’s content is so interesting to learn and they really refresh my mind!

To be honest when I first read the introduction“looking at online gaming from an educational perspective”, I was so confused because I could not even link online gaming to something educational, and I am sure that this subjective idea is largely impacted by my personal experience.

Gardenscapes, which is a candy crush game, must be the game that I’ve spent most of the time on in my entire life. …

The first thing I’ve learned from this week is the word “trolling”, and some reasons behind trolling. Society always wants to create a healthy digital environment for all people, but hostility and misinformation are hard to avoid. Personally, it is so easy to find an internet user from Instagram which can always be negative and try to blame something under different posts.

Have you ever questioned why people troll?

A lot of people believe that having freedom of speech online is a way for them to give vent. However, it should not be the reason for impacting, even hurting other…

This week’s topic is really interesting to talk about because I have so many things want to share.

I am an international student, and I left the U.S. and came back to my home country in late May last year. At the beginning, I believed that studying at home definitely can increase the connection with others, especially with family at home. Well, it was true at the beginning. Since we didn’t have more COVID cases in the country during summer time, I hung out with my friends quite often. …

In my opinion, online activism is the activism that happens on the Internet; it could be an advocacy which attracts many other internet users to participate and reflect on real life. It relates to digital leadership since this activity not only happens on individuals, but also a group of people, which people try to use the power of the internet to improve their lives.

As more people use the internet, online activism becomes a tool to increase awareness of something and let more people know and take action on it. It is hard to give an accurate percentage of the…

It is true that we might all hold different definitions of “ privacy” depending on backgrounds and culture. Personally, I am not a meticulous person who will read every line on the terms of service contracts; rather, finishing all the procedures as fast as possible and clicking YES I AGREE are the things I do. I “trust” the apps or websites due to the procedures that they included look professional and I am not the only one using those apps, so I feel safe to create an account without reading the contract.

Digital privacy is important; it includes not only…

Digital identity is a characteristic that the internet has; it allows the users to create their own identities online, whether it’s true or fake. Affected by the wide use of the internet, web or social media becomes a platform for people, especially teenagers, to explore identities and interact with others.

According to Wängqvist and Frisén, “online contexts are important settings for adolescent identity development” , especially identity exploration. For most of us, knowing our identities is not a difficult thing; however, for the people who might be from a minority background or have identities which are not in the mainstream…
